Republic RF-84F "Thunderflash"

Il "Thurderflash" costituiva lo sviluppo finale del monoposto cacciabombardiere di base, Republic F-84. Il primo prototipo di questa versione da ricognizione fotografica, con prese d'aria laterali, volò nel 1951. La produzione dell'RF-84F fu di 715 esemplari, dei quali 386 entrarono in servizio nelle forze aeree della NATO. In Italia hanno operato 78 esemplari dal 1956 al 1974, presso la 3a Aerobrigata di Villafranca, fino alla sostituzione con gli RF-104G. Il Republic RF-84F Thunderflash fu utilizzato principalmente dagli Stati Uniti, dalla Francia, dalla Norvegia, dalla Germania oltre, naturalmente, all'Italia. L'esemplare in mostra al Parco Tematico dell'Aviazione conserva i codici e le insegne della 3a Aerobrigata basata a Villafranca (Vr). M.M. 27459.

The "Thunderflash" was an upgraded variant of the Republic F-84 single-seater fighter-bomber, and the first prototype of this reconnaissance version, with side air-intakes, flew in 1951. A total of 715 RF-84F's were built, 386 of which served with NATO air forces. Between 1956 and 1975, 78 of these air-craft flew with the 3rd Air Brigade stationed at Villafranca, until they were replaced with RF-104G's. The Republic RF-84F Thunderflash was used mainly by the United States, France, Italy, Norway and Germany. The example shown here carries the markings of the air force group based at Villafranca airport.

Der "Thunderflash" stellte die Endentwicklung des einsitzigen Jagdbombers Republic F-84 dar. Der erste Prototyp in dieser Version als Aufklärungsflugzeug, mit seitlichen Luftkammern, flog 1951. Die Produktion des RF-84F bestand aus 715 Exemplaren, von denen 386 in den Dienst der NATO traten. Bis zu seiner Ersetzung durch die RF-104G operierten in Italien 78 Exemplare zwischen 1956 und 1974 bei dem 3. Geschwader in Villafranca (Verona). Die Republic RF-84F Thunderflash wurde hauptsächlich von den USA, Frankreich, Italien, Norwegen und Deutschland benutzt. Das ausgestellte Modell trägt die Aufschrift des 3. Geschwader mit dem Stützpunkt auf dem Flugplatz von Villafranca.
