Republic F-84F "Thunderstreak"

Costruito dalla Republic americana l'F-84F compie il primo volo nel febbraio del 1951. La produzione di questo cacciabombardiere è abbastanza copiosa, viene infatti adottato dalle aviazioni militari di gran parte dei paesi aderenti alla NATO. Tra i primi reparti dell'A.M.I. a riceverlo troviamo la 6a Aerobrigata di Ghedi (Bs), dove giunse nella primavera del 1956. In seguito il "Thunderstreak" andò ad equipaggiare la 5a Aerobrigata trasferitasi a Rimini-Miramare, la 51a Aerobrigata di Istrana, il 36° Stormo di Gioia del Colle, il 50° Stormo di S. Damiano (Pc) e l'8° Stormo di Cervia. Dopo diciassette anni di valido servizio, l'F-84F concluse la sua vita operativa nel 1973. Tra i vari compiti di questo velivolo vi è stato anche quello di equipaggiare le varie Pattuglie Acrobatiche. L'esemplare in mostra al Parco Tematico dell'Aviazione è uno tra questi (l'arancio), esso è appartenuto alla celebre pattuglia dei "Getti Tonanti", il team acrobatico della 5a Aerobrigata (prima dell'istituzione della P.A.N. le varie pattuglie erano fornite di volta in volta dalle diverse A.B.). Il gruppo era formato da 5/6 piloti ognuno col proprio colore identificativo: bianco, giallo, arancio, rosso, verde (poi blu) e nero. Sulla deriva sono riprodotti i cinque anelli simbolo delle Olimpiadi che si tenevano in quel periodo (1960) a Roma.

The F-84F was built by the US manufacturer "Republic", and first flew in February 1951. It was produced in great numbers and was operative in the air forces of many NATO countries. In Spring 1956 the first delivery in Italy of F-84F’s was assigned to the 6th Aerobrigade at Ghedi, and the plane was then used by the 5th Wing at Rimini-Miramare, the 51st Wing at Istrana, the 36th Wing at Gioia del Colle, the 50th Wing at San Damiano and the 8th Wing at Cervia. The F-84F closed its operative life in 1973 after some twenty years of service. Among its various uses (fighter and fighter-bomber), the F-84F was also employed by Italian Air Force acrobatics teams. The model on display at the museum is exhibited with the insignia and colours of the famous acrobatic squadron of the Rimini-based 5th Wing, the "Thunderjets", which flew between 1959 and 1960. The five F-84F’s (later six) of the 5th Wing were decorated in colours chosen personally by the pilots: red, white, green (then blue), yellow, black and orange. This last colour was the one preferred by Flight Sergeant Gregorio Baschirotto (now a retired Group Captain). The plane also bears the five rings that are the symbol of the Olympic Games, held in Italy in 1960.

Konstruiert von der amerikanischen Firma Republic, führt die F-84F ihren ersten Flug im Februar 1951 aus. Die Produktion dieses Flugzeuges ist sehr stark, sie wird von einer Vielzahl von Ländern der NATO eingesetzt. Beim 6. Geschwader von Ghedi (BS) , dem ersten bei der A.M.I der sie erhielt, traf sie im Frühjahr 1956 ein. Später wurde sie auch beim 5. Geschwader in Rimini-Miramare, dem 51. Geschwader von Istrana, dem 36. Geschwader in Gioia del Colle, dem 50. Geschwader in S. Damiano (PC) und dem 8. Geschwader von Cervia verwendet. Die F-84F beendete ihre Laufbahn 1973, nach siebzehn erfolgreichen Dienstjahren. Unter den zahlreichen Aufgaben, für die das Flugzeug eingesetzt worden war, fand es Verwendung auch bei unseren Akrobatikgruppen, das ausgestellte Exemplar zählte auch dazu. Es hatte der bekannten Gruppe der "Getti Tonanti" angehört. Das Team, welches vom 5. Geschwader aufgestellt wurde ( vor der Gründung der P.A.N. wurden die verschiedenen Gruppen von den unterschiedlichen Geschwadern aufgestellt), bestand aus 5/6 Piloten jeder mit einer eigenen Farbe: weiß, gelb, orange, rot, grün (später blau) und schwarz. Auf der Seitenflosse waren symbolisch die fünf Ringe der Olympiade abgebildet, die damals (1960) in Rom stattgefunden hatte.
