McDonnell F-4 Phantom II
Il McDonnell Phantom è forse il più celebre tra gli aerei da combattimento mai prodotti. Con la sigla XF4 H-1 ha volato per la prima volta nel Maggio del 1958, e quando fu cessata la sua produzione, nel 1979, ne erano stati costruititi 5.195 esemplari. Le eccellenti prestazioni del Phantom, a tutti i regimi di volo, stabilirono nuovi primati aeronautici e lo resero protagonista di diversi conflitti intorno agli anni '60-'70 (Vietnam, Kippur, Iran-Iraq). L'utilizzo di questo aereo si è protatto sino ai nostri giorni, infatti il Phantom, anche nella più recente Guerra del Golfo, è stato utilizzato per oltre 2.000 missioni di combattimento, armato con missili HARM antiradiazione. Il McDonnell F-4 Phantom II essendo uno dei migliori e più completi aerei da combattimento del mondo, è stato utilizzato per svariati impieghi: trasporto di ordini atomici, attacchi antinave, missioni antiradiazione ecc. e da un grande numero di Paesi: Gran Bretagna (equipaggiato con motori Rolls-Royce Spey), Iran, Corea del Sud, Israele, Giappone, Spagna, Germania, Grecia, Turchia, Egitto e Australia. L'aereo esposto al Parco Tematico dell'Aviazione, ha partecipato ai raids "Line Backer" dalla base di Korat (Thailandia). Porta i codici e le insegne del periodo nel quale era basato a Human Field (113th TFS, 181st TFG). In un secondo tempo è stato assegnato al 52° Tactical Fighter Wing (81°TFS - U.S.A.F.).
The McDonnell F-4 Phantom II is, perhaps, one of the most famous combat fighters ever to have been built. The prototype flew for the first time in May 1958 as the XF-4 H-1, and when production ceased in 1979, a total 5195 aircraft had been built. The excellent performance of the Phantom in all flight conditions enabled it to set several aeronautical records, and it was widely used in several wars of the 1960's and 1970's (Vietnam, Yom Kippur, Iran-Iraq). Considered to be one of the world's most effective and complete combat planes, it has seen service in a variety of roles, including nuclear weapons deployment, anti-ship attacks and anti-radiation missions, in the air forces of many countries, such as the United Kingdom (fitted with Rolls-Royce Spey engines), Iran, South Korea, Israel, Japan, Spain, West Germany, Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Australia. The plane on display at the Aviation Museum is a F-4 E/F Wild Weasel, which flew numerous mission during the Vietnam War and then was assigned to the 52nd Tactical Fighter Wing - 81st TFS of the USAF.
Das Mc Donnell F-4 Phantom II ist vielleicht das berühmteste unter den Kampfflugzeugen, das je gebaut worden ist. Mit dem Kennzeichen XF4 H-1 flog es zum ersten Mal 1958 und als man 1979 seine Produktion beendete, waren davon 5195 Exemplare konstruiert worden. Die hervorragenden Leistungen des Phantom, in jederlei flugtechnischer Hinsicht, brachten neue Rekordleistungen hervor und machten es zum Hauptdarsteller verschiedener Konflikte der 60- 70-er Jahre (Vietnam, Iran-Irak, Kippur), und sein Einsatz hat sich bis in die Gegenwart fortgesetzt, wie z. B. im Golfkrieg, wo es für über 2.000 Kampfeinsätze mit HARM Antiradar-Raketen bewaffnet eingesetzt wurde. Das Mc Donnell F-4 Phantom II wurde, da es eines der besten und vollkommensten Kampfflugzeuge der Welt ist, auch für den Transport von Atombomben, Gegenschiffsangriffe, Anti-Radar-Missionen, sowie von einer großen Anzahl von Ländern verwendet: Großbritannien (ausgestattet mit Rolls Royce Spey-Motoren), Iran (177), Südkorea (19), Israel (216), Japan (140), Spanien, Westdeutschland, Griechenland (56), Türkei (40), Ägypten und Australien. Das im Museum ausgestellte Flugzeug ist eine Phantom F-4 E/F Wild Weasel, die in zahlreichen Missionen im Vietnamkrieg im Einsatz war und nachfolgend dem 52 Tactial Wing (81. T.F. Sq.) der U.S.A.F. übergeben wurde.
